A Promises from God to us (notes from John Piper's Most-Used Promises)
Isaiah 41:10
fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
- dismayed: look at something with feelings of anxiety or distress caused but usually something unexpected
- strengthen: to be strong, alert, courageous, brave, stout, bold, solid, hard
- help: to surround, i.e. protect or aid:—help, succour (assistance and support in times of hardship and distress)
- uphold: to grasp, hold, support, attain, lay hold of, hold fast
God himself is speaking as an "I" to me personally. When I recite this by an act of faith, I am hearing the living God saying to me, I will do all these things!
Those 3 verbs (strengthen, help and uphold) correspond to every challenge we can face. Strength when were weak and inadequate. Help of whatever kind we need. Upholding when we feel threatened, opposed and beat down. It comes true!!!!!
Even though in context it is address to Israel, because of 2 corinthians 1:20, because of the blood of Christ and my membership in the New Covenant, all the promises of God are Yes for me in Christ Jesus. I am apart of the New Israel in Christ
"For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory." 2 corinthians 1:20
Romans 8:32
He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
Does something in addition to Romans 8:28
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,[a] for those who are called according to his purpose."
Includes all the glorious promises in verse 28 and it provides the unshakeable foundation (logic) of why He will. All things that we need to do His will and give glory to His name and everything in the life to come to enable us to know Him fully and enjoy Him perfectly and fully. This is the deepest foundation for all the promises.
Matthew 28:20
"teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
4:19
"And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."
2 corinthians 9:8
"And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work."
So many good works required of us in the ministry, we wonder if we will have the wear with all to do what were expected to do. these promises all say yes will God will see to it
It is good to memorize these and also look for new and fresh promises in our daily reading in the morning so we can remember that promise throughout that particular day.
